I grew up in a small town in Wyoming. One of the things I did for fun growing up was catching lizards and snakes. When I was a kid, there were two kinds of snakes: the kind you kept as pets, and the kind you skinned and gave to your teachers as gifts. Now, living in downtown Los Angeles, I’ve realized there are still two kinds of snakes—me and the other snake. These early experiences with nature and the duality of things stuck with me. That idea became the seed for this painting.
